FX tree : how do you use it in production ? advantage over compositing softw

We use it here for 80-90% of all compositings. It's [a] great [start].

Since 4.2 FxTree is pretty stable. But there are some lack of important
features.

When we moved to FxTree I was very sure: you can solve everything in FxTree
with old school techniques.
But after a few missions I had to accept: that's not true.
Sometimes we still have to switch to AFX for some special effects like a
nice lightburst,
Knoll Lensflares which can't be done such nice and perfect in FxTree.

The new Reelsmart Motion Blur node from RevisionFx used with lm_2dmv is a
nice step forward for us.

I would recommend to use FxTree as much as possible. I hope that Softimage
still concentrates on a strong and serious development of FxTree.
If they try to get close to Shake then we will have the most powerful
combine app out there.

hi folks,
its kind of a very general question,  but i was messing around with fx tree
and wondering how do you use it in production?
when is it more convenient than your favorite compositing package?
i think for quick render passes composite its quiet useful but do you really
output your final images with it ?
i also know  the image_clip trick "from_clip" "to_clip" ...can do a lot of
things :-) I am also trying to find situation or efffects where the
advantage to have both 3D and compositing in one package would be an
advantage...
It's kind of a very open question and feel free to share your experiences or
advices
   thanks
     olivier

p.s. could it be in the future to have a 3D paint using the paint system?
that would be great hehe
