Why not going with Microsoft(r) Windows AntiSpyware (Beta)?

Best I can do for you is tell you what I usually use:

AdAware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

AVG
http://www.grisoft.com

AdAware is pretty standard and I'd guess you've already given it a shot.

AVG is a virus checker thats a little off the radar.  I like it because
some virus writers like to try to cicumvent the more popular AV
programs.  Using AVG makes me feel a little better protected since its
not likely to be targeted directly.  Though thats probably foolhearty :)
