OT: Ad-ware/spyware or trick to remove crap 2005-04-27 - By todd akita
Back Bernard --
I feel your pain. The last time this happened to me I downloaded hijackthis, ran it, and then rebooted in to safemode and cleaned out whatever didn't jibe. Also while you're in safe mode wipe out whatever's in the system temp directory, and clean out the temporary internet files, a lot of those things tend to wind up in there and also in the winnt/system32 directory, and will sometimes create folders for themselves in the program files directory as well.
Anyway you can get hijackthis here -- http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html
It's a pretty neat tool, try running it and you may be surprised by what you find.
I'd also try downloading and installing the latest version of lavasoft's AdAware, it's free and is quite useful for cleaning out those things too though the most stubborn things of this sort need to be rooted out in safe mode kind of manually.
good luck,
-T
