Hi Ovidiu,

There's certainly ways to pass data back and forth - it's been
discussed in quite a few threads on xsibase.com if you do a quick
search.

Though I'd recommend you sit down with XSI a bit longer before you
decide whether to incorporate maya at all. The animation and rendering
capabilities of XSI are far stronger than mayas. (Exceptions being if
you want to use the new misss_fast_skin shader or some of the other
newer developments - though I imagine we'll see a lot of those in XSI
soon). But as far as pipeline management with multiple passes, getting
the most out of the shader interface and most other renderbased work,
in 99% of cases you will not find a better mental ray based solution
than XSI.

I'd like to comment more on the animation side, but seeing it's not
really my thing I'll leave that up to someone who can go into the
production details of it's advantages rather than glossing over it.

Hope this helps,

Alan.
