Remember that a recovery option, even when it doesn’t save a complete scene
that you can use later on, can still save your life.

I don’t trust them to the point of using a recovery scene in the pipeline,
and we explicitly prohibit using them here, no matter how many hours of work
you lost in a crash.

However if you are modeling or animating you can always take all that is in
your scene and export it as an eani file or as a dotxsi, same goes for
tweaking stuff, where you can save presets anc caches for the operators or
simulations you tweaked.

Using a recovered scene is a dangerous thing to do, but using elements
extrapolated from it to rebuild it or update an older scene is perfectly
safe and in some occasions a big time saver.

Due to the nature of most crashes and how they can scramble data in memory
and temp files, it’s only normal that recovered scenes can often be
unreliable, wouldn’t hold that against Soft. It’s still good that it does
try and fish up whatever it can though since very often you can use elements
from that scene.

Hi Axel,

Thanks for the reply, but I'm hearing autosave also gives more trouble than
it's worth.....

It's just plain silly having a recovery option that doesn't do the job
right.

crashing seems to be related with materials/texture editing. Especially when
copying models, making materials local and changing names and textures for
the copy.

Must remind myself of the mantra: Ctrl+S.... Ctrl+S.... Ctrl+S....
Ctrl+S.... ;)
