Got it!
Sorry for the wasted bandwidth Will and others. I was just being a bit dumb.
I found out what the problem was..
The system we use here to run xsi has seprate settings for ess, adv, etc..
I checked that the allow editing of custom props onscreen was checked
but later found that it was in adv, but not in ess. Just assumed they
would be the same.
Sorry about that everyone, and many thanks for all the help!
