Converting Curves to Linear... 2005-04-14 - By Lee Hallett
Back Cheers Matt, if you mean changing the steps in Geometry approximation, the curves don't conform as linear when you change the parametric step - they still behave as NURBS. As I mentioned, rebuilding the curves isn't an option, neither is any export/import tricks - because the curves have been extruded using curves to mesh, and the 700+ models have been laboriously renamed (it's taken ages, for very boring reasons).
So I guess there's no way of converting without creating new curves (easily don't with Create->Curve->fit on curve, incase anyone didn't know)

Wouldn't it be easier to convert the paths to linear in Adobe Illustrator before importing to XSI?
If you must do it in XSI, you can reduce the parametric step of the curves from the default 3 down to 1, you'll essentially have linear curves even
though they aren't truly linear curves.
If that isn't an option, you might want to investigate import/export tricks such as exporting to dotXSI and adjusting the settings to convert the curves in the process.
Finally, a script could be written to redraw the curves as linear curves
using either the control point positions, or the knot positions. Should be fairly straightforward and painless.

Title: Converting Curves to Linear... Hi all - is there a way to convert Nurbes curves to Linear curves? By which I mean convert them, as opposed to generating new models.
I've imported an eps file, subtracted all subcurves (700+) and extruded models from them. I have had to manually rename all 700+ models, but have since realised I needed to convert to linear curves prior to extruding and naming the models. Simply going back and doing 'fit to curve' to generat
linear versions of the Nurbs isn't a very pleasant option, as it would mean re-doing some very, very laborious, torturous, not to mention time consuming work.
Ideally I could change the Nurbs to linear, which would also keep the relation with the extruded models intact, and therefore keep the renamed
models intact too....
Any ideas?
Cheers all!
