Simulating a chain whip

Simulating a chain whip

Had to work on something similar a few months ago, but it was a chain
uncurling not really a wipping motion.

Ended up using chained RBDs constraints and having a curve generated by the
intermediate points, then duplicated links from animation on top of the
curve, with motion blur and everything it looked pretty convincing, and it
respects the first rule of a chain… constant length, which string ops and
cloth simulation with their stretchy springs will not give you.

Subject: Simulating a chain whip

Hi

I am looking for advice about creating a convincing aggressive chain whip
animation.

I was asked to find a way to simulate it as it would probably look more
realistic than if an animator handles it.

Trying with Syflex right now but not really getting good results.. it seems
as if it’s missing some of the weight transfer physic.

Any suggestion is welcome.

Thanks!

P.s. We tried with XSI Tails and it’s really not working for us.
