Yeah, we have to do a good bit of scene merging.

The materials thing is known, it's probably happening when you delete
objects and the materials just get left in the library. No way round but to
clean them out regularly using the option to remove unused materials.

The passes and layers thing, are you doing a lot of scene merging?

Subject: Out of control file sizes???????

I have a rigged character model that started out at around 3 meg and ended
being 22 meg.

I dug around in the Explorer and found a VERY long list in Layers and Passes
and Materials.  I deleted all of these except the tops ones on each list.
My file size is back down to 4 meg.

My question is:

WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN????!!!!  Is there a way to prevent XSI from creating
all these materials, layers, passes, so that I don't have to keep spending
all this time deleting stuff I don't need and, as far as I know, never
needed to be there in the first place.

Any help with this matter would be appreciated.

-Phil
