Back Just so it's been said gentoo. http://www.gentoo.org Everyone will tell you it's a hardcore linux users choice because it's highly configurable. They'll also say it's not ideal for newbies.
It's the first linux I've put on my laptop - first linux I've used for more than a couple of weeks and while I will agree that it's initial setup isn't as simple as others. Once you have the base system up and running maintaining and upgrading it is much simpler than the alternatives I've experienced.
Plus the knowledge you gain from understanding a bit behind how it all works makes fixing it much easier if something does go wrong. Rather than just throwing your arms up in the air.
