Will engage brain next time before answering...

Have you tried going into the animated object's shapes and removing the
dependancies to other meshes? (it's some kind of freeze which I don't remember
off the top of my head)

This *should* let you motion blur successfully...

 Place your mouse over the CameraTxt operator.
 A tooltip will appear telling you from where in the stack (construction
history) it is reading.

 Drag the CameraTxt operator above the clustershapecombiner op and all should
be peachy.

   I have run into this problem before as well.  Basically if you are using the
   history of the shape to drive the transformation, it will not motion blur.
   I worked out a solution to this by using a scripted operator to transfer the
   animation from one object to another (use the get polygon mesh and set
   polygon mesh).  If that is out of your scope, I believe you could also bake
   the animation into the target shape (however, this will create very large
   scene file).
