Opteron or xeon? 2005-04-05 - By Rob Wuijster
Back >From what I'm keep reading the Opterons are very fast, especially with rendering. And with the =soon %\= to be released Windows XP 64 bit you might even add some extra memory management in there. According to all the pressmaterial they rendered most of "Sin City" on AMD Opteron, so you could argue it's not that bad ;) I've got a couple of dual Athlons running over here, and they're very stable and fast. No complaints in that area.

Hi all,
just thought I'd ask before I make my choice. The situation is this... I'm planning on buying a render PC for my desk top set-up, so I'm faced with two options, dual Opteron or dual xeon. So if anyone can give me any advice as to witch would perform better with xsi 4.2 a dual opteron 1.8 ghz or a dual xeon 2.8 D. The price difference is not much but I'm going to be running Windows so I know I won't be making the most of the opteron but such is life, and for some reason I can't get hold of a dual K7 mother board so dual Athlons is out of the question.
Anyway thanks for any advice, m@
