Doesnt require it necessarily,
but I m making the planet saturn's rings at the moment (very comparable to a
rainbow I d say),
and it looks just a zillion times better with thickness/particles rather than
just some textured plane(s)...
Took an hour or so to set up, and renders in less than a minute a frame for me.
..
I don't think that the rainbow requires some volume, can't you just take a
plane (or mutliple to get a bit thickness) and finetune the rainbow in
compositing?
Otherwise I will release RC4 of my volume shader next week. I thin kthis will
be the last Release Canditate. No new features in RC4, only documentation and
more speed optimizations.

have any idea on how to do it in XSI? I have to do a fly through so they need
to look convincingly real.
