Make rainbow and clouds

hm thats a broad topic isnt it...

- they're s no decent volumetric clouds at this day in XSI, allthough with some
fiddling around with particles textured with fractals you can get something
usefull. But its mostly the lighting that will not be very realistic.
There is something that is upcoming from www.binaryalchemy.de and its probably
the closest to good looking clouds that we'll see for the time being.
If you are kind, you can ask holger to join the beta test, or an estimation on
the release date.

- for the rainbow,
if you're not happy with just a disc with some gradients textured to it,
I would suggest to model it with particles.
make a disc, map a colorgradient and transparency color on it (as a texture map
!), generate insane amounts of particles from it, connecting the "map color" to
the colorgradient texture map and particle "rate" to the transparency
texturemap. Play around with the shape properties for the particle type,
especially the user defined falloff, to get the proper "tiny points" look, and
you can then freeze the particle cloud.
this way you can make a "volumetric" rainbow, consisting of several thousands
of tiny particles.

just some thoughts...

I need expert help... I am trying to generate 3D rainbow and clouds. Anyone
have any idea on how to do it in XSI? I have to do a fly through so they need
to look convincingly real.

 Many thanks...
