render tree calling fx tree 2005-03-24 - By matt hollingsworth
Back Hey Bernard,
Yes, but then these proxy parameteres would jsut drive a number, not an overall look, right?
Using the clips is pretty cool as it'll get that "look" into the shader without prerendering it out. I'm curious about seeing if you could get something like having a fractal call over to the FX Tree and running one of those "painterly" filters on it, then returning it back to the shader. Any ideas about how to get a workaround for this? Guess baking the fractal out as an image would work, but then you'd lose the animation ability within the fractal itself. Seems like it'd be pretty great. Then you could animate whatever attributes on the panterly filter and also on the fractal independent of each other.
Kinda seems like the way things should be. When it all comes down to it, shader setup and comp are all about acheiving a look. And, they're node based. I see very little difference between the two. Seems like shader setup, comp, lighing etc shoudl all use the same toolset and interact like happy little buddies.
Loving the FX Tree, BTW. Some very nice results from that.
And, Bernard, you helped me out with some scripts during the summer last year, so thanks a lot. I was over at Rhythm and Hues for 5 months (nice place, just wasn't doing 3D, was painting textures), though, with no XSI. But, now I am back!
:-)
cheers to all,
-Matt
