Placing upVector objects

Placing upVector objects

Hello fellow XSI'ers,

I am currently working on a rig building system, and I am currently
trying to figure out where to place upVector objects for 3D Chains so
the chains do not move once the constraint (well, actually, it is a
scripted op), is applied.

At first this sounds rather trivial (since it is very easy for a 2D
Chain).  But the 3D case has me stumped.  The manual for XSI doesn't go
deep enough from what I can see so far about the actual procedure used
to form the resolution plane, but it does give a hint that it is derived
from the first Bone in the chain, which I am still playing with manually
to see if I can derive a solution.

I would be grateful to anyone who either knows a solution for this or
could point me in the direction of documentation that would provide me
with more clues.

thanks in advance,

Luke

P.S. I have checked out the character rigging code under the
XSI/Application\DSScripts\CharacterRigging\makeLeg.js which looked very
promising, but it is only for 2D leg chains.
