Its done first week 2004-01-30 - By Chris Kufahl
Back I worded my point bad. I probably should have started a new paragraph for it too. My point wasn't that they make better images, but the process of making the images is much better. IE, it's easier on the artist, and allows them more creativity to make what they want, which, I believe, results in a better image because you're better able to express yourself.
Looking back though, my "a great tS artist couldn't hold a candle to a great LW artist" was pretty stupid.
You Said: Look, like I said above, it's great you have a program that works well for you (since, after all, it's the final image that counts and not what you use to get to it) but I hardly feel you're the perfect person to comment on Truespace falling short. Lightwave is a good application, that's true, but Truespace is no slouch.
Well, true, the end image is all that counts, but to go along with my above remarks, if you have to fight an application instead of work with one, you're going to produce more images that are closer to what you wanted in the first place. Also, my opinion of tS is that it is way too buggy, which limits effeciency, and the new tools seem to have always been half baked and dodgy. I mean really, if I have to replace SDS (nurbs in tS4) with an outside plugin, that isn't saying much of the original tool. Also, D3D seemed to act funky within tS as opposed to other applications that use it (in 4, and demos of 5&6). That might not be tS's problem, but it seems pretty odd that it would only be tS that doesn't seem to handle it properly. Not to mention crashes in general, tS seems to hang/crash quite a bit, whereas none of the other applications I use regularly crash that often. PS hasn't crashed on me that I can remember, Illustrator hasn't crashed that I can remember, Macromedia Studio MX (any of the apps included) hasn't crashed on me yet, and LW has on a few (maybe 3) occasions.
As for your other post asking for a link to a gallery, check out Newtek's own: http://www.newtek.com/products/lightwave/lw-gallery/index.php?cat=2 It's got all sorts of galleries, TV, environments, industrial design, film, sci fi and a bunch more.
It is so tempting to interject "It's a poor tradesman who blames his tools" into this that I think I will. ^_^
And it's a poor toolmaker that makes defective tools. Or a poor tradesman who used the wrong tools? I don't know.
