I use a texture map for the cut map. As for the number of hairs, where the
map is white it leaves the hairs untouched.

When you use a cutmap, does it count the hairs you are cutting into the
total hairs on the hair object? Also, is there any way to make the
weightmap more detailed than every vertice? My mesh is very low
resolution and I'm having trouble getting the weightmap to cover the
right areas.
