Felt I should add something more to this. My laptop is (was???) a
Toshiba Satellite 5220. I bought it in June 2003. About 6 months ago
the dvd writer started stuffing up and then died completely. I figured
I was unlucky - an AUD$6200 laptop should last longer, but I guess
there's a reason they only offer 12 months warranty.

Anyway - it gets better. This morning the hard drive failed and it's
now completely unusuable. So if you do go with the toshiba - get an
extended warranty.

Cheers,

Alan.
