Back ive done successful strokes using particles in the past...having them freeze when they reach the canvas-- not oil paint though, for that you'd have to apply a good shader to the particles and i dont know if that would work.. also you would have to control the emission so it looks like paint being daubed (i.e. somehow tie the number of particles emitted to the motion otherwise you would get bleeding )... i dunno, maybe this would not work j.
