Reference Pivots

Reference Pivots

What is the workflow for changing the center/pivot of a referenced piece of
geometry.  Since it is locked it doesn't seem to take the changes.  Ideally I
imagine the center should be good before you reference it, but what if the
center needs adjusting?

In general, what is the common way to animate reference geometry; since it's
locked?

Thanks,
S
