Back Does anyone else find this very limiting? What's the point of swapping data to a file on disk, if it has such a filesize limitation?
More general, it seems that photon mapping isnt the most opportune solution when it comes to animation?
It works well enough for "flythrough" sequences where the camera moves through otherwise static scenes. Once you animate lights or the environment it loses its purpose, and you have to recalculate the map each frame, requiring much higher quality settings.
But character animation falls a bit in between, requiring animation, but not necessarily the same level of FG detail as the environment.
It would make sense to have groups with each their own photon calculations, eg. one precalculated FGmap for the background, and then a new FG calculation per frame for the character only. (of course you can do this by splitting up in passes, and it would probably end up more effective)
You're trying to render 500 frames plus all in one go??? It won't happen.
