I always use the same color/texture for diffuse and ambient input.
When I need a  "color pass" I just override the ambient to 100% intensity
and hide members in the lights partition.

If your ambient and diffuse are differente, a script who copy the diffuse
input in the surface input would be the solution...that I
would like to know to :-p .

Cheers.
