Material override, but keep integrity of texture info...

Hey all out there,

I'm trying to figure out if there's a way where I can do a global
material override on all of my scene objects, and yet still keep and
render the alpha of the texture.

Think of it this way...  I have a grid with a texture on it that also
has alpha and I'm trying to maintain the transparency of the texture.
For one of our passes, we assign a global material for all objects but
of course this overrides any textures on the objects so I have no more
transparency.

Does anyone out there know of a way of setting up a global "pay
attention to texture alpha" in a render tree or a script?

Any info would be a great help...

Thanks in advance!
Karen
