Hello, everyone I am new to this mailing list and I am glad to be part of
it.  Now to cut to the chase.  I have two questions.

First - I wondering how you can do a mechanical joint movement in XSI as in
a robot or something of that nature.  If I just apply bones and envelope
and bend it will create a bend which is not common in mechanical things.
So how do you go about doing this?

Second -  I come from another animation package which it's textures
channels like color and diffuse are seperate channels.  I noticed that in
alot of examples\tutorials i've seen they always plug it into both the
diffuse and ambient.  Does Mental Ray know how to calcuate the diffusion of
a surface or am I doing something wrong if I am trying to create a dirty
surface look.  I saw that Ed harris created a seperate texture with alpha
to make the surface dirty is this how you do it? Or is there another way?

Thank You
