User normals?

User normals?

2005-01-25       - By Axel Akesson

Hi list,

We are having some problems with importing a CAD-model in .stp format to
XSI. We export it as .obj (and get a User_Normal_Cluster on the model)
and everything works fine until we envelope the model. Then some parts
get screwed.
Also shadowpasses (w. Area light) and reflection passes are screwed
after the envelope. The beauty pass looks pretty good though (I suspect
this is because different raytypes?).
The problem is that the CAD-model is in NURBS so there is of course
"stitched" together parts in the polymsh, this is what the user normals
fix btw. If we delete the cluster we see the stitches again.
I read some old post that the user_normals dont get deformed when using
deformers on a model like this.

Is there any way we can deform the model without problem and still keep
the user_normals?

Cheers,

Axel
