import old SI 4D Creative Environment .scn? 2005-01-20 - By Matt Lind
Back The 4D Creative Environment scene file format changed around v2.5 circa 1992/1993. Therefore, if you're using SI3D to it import, you cannot use the regular Get > Scene. You must use the Get old scene option which is a bit further down the menu (I don't have SI3D in front of me or else I'd tell you exactly where it was). Once you have it in SI3D, you can save as an SI3D scene or export as a dotXSI file for later use in XSI. However, if you're using SI3D on windows or Linux, you might run into a byte swap issue as SGI's MIPS processors had a different endian than the Intel chips (The byte swapping routines weren't added to the DKit until the mid/late 1990's). If that's the case, you might have to do all the importing on an IRIX version of SI3D before moving onto XSI.
Don't ask me how I remember all that. ;-)

Has anyone imported old scenes from Softimage 4D Creative Environment (.scn extension) into either SI3D or XSI? I've been searching for info and coming up empty.
