Back You could try (if you haven't already) using map shadows, instead of ray, setting the detail to 9 and the sharpness to 1 on each of the lights you want to cast shadows. You could also throw in an IBL, with a fairly low resolution and fuzzyness, for a completely different look. And, have you tried running a basic radiosity solution?
Anyway, I missed the posts about your picture before... so I hope I'm not repeating anything already said :) It looks great, reguardless.
