Back Incredible! It works! I have tried it for so many times. Just saving and reopening would have done it. Thank you very much! Since I was using XSI since version 3, I only knew that the sample scene remained the same for that time span. I didn't know that these shaders were from an elder version and need different treatment. But it makes me happy that it finally works. Many thanks for your help!

That example scene was built in an old version of XSI (this one has been there for as long as I can remember, v1 or 1.5), before they modified the particle system to its current state. For you to use it you need to delete the ptype shaders (so the cloud's shader takes precedence), remove the particle renderer node from the cloud and plug in the appropriate "legacy" nodes (this is on the cloud's rtree). Save your scene, open it up again and they will/should render with ye old shaders...
