Volumic shadows problem

Volumic shadows problem

Has anyone here found a way to make volumic shadows respect shadows rays turned
off for specific objects?

To keep things simple and rendertimes low I need to use shadowmaps instead of
raytraced. I have transparent objects in the shot, so to get proper shadows
from these I need volumic shadows. I have other objects I don't want to cast
shadows, so I have turned shadow rays visibility off for those. Problem is,
normal shadowmaps respect that, but don't become lighter through
semitransparent objects, which volumic shadows do. Volumic shadows however don
't respect when shadow rays are turned off, so it is a sort of catch 22. I wan't
to avoid passes on this one as it would becom fairly complex.

So I thought someone here may have a nifty way of making volumic shadows see
shadow rays are turned off!?
