Nested Models - Re: Action Clips

Nested Models - Re: Action Clips

I'm not too clear what the purpose of Biped4 is for.. Is it a rig you've
generated to control the pigeon? In that case what is Pigeon A for.. Judging by
the objects in the hierarchy, it looks as though you're using that mixer to
store shapes on the body and wings. I would think that a single mixer would be
good for all of your skeleton pieces and your mesh pieces. The caveat here
though is that if you're using the biped that ships with soft you probably won
't want to cut the skeleton pieces from this Biped4 model, due to the action
sources already being used by the rig itself.

If it is the default rig you are using, perhaps take all the elements from
PigeonA and drag and drop into the Biped4 model. Then cut the Biped4 model from
your Pigeon_bg_B_w_braceletsB model. You'll end up with a single model Biped4
that hosts all the pieces of your character. I fyou have shape sources stored
in the PigeonA model, you most likely will have to save the shape sources as a
preset, then load them back into the Biped4 models mixer through D&D.

Thats just one thought., others on list here will have some interesting ways of
dealing with models I'm sure.

Best of luck :-)

 Adam,
I have also been doing some character rigs that had nested models and
struggled with the Mixer giving unexpected results.
Please take a look at the image below,
Would you recomend that I cut the nested models so that Biped4 and Pigeon A
is only a child of the main Pigeon_bg_B_w_braceletsB model?
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

not so much that problems or bugs occur as a result, more that its trickier
to manage all the sources of a character if they are stored in various mixers,
nested within a model. I can understand though the desire to have say a
characters separate hands stored in their own mixer, or a face with its
multitude of shapes in its own mixer, but this is what the Compounds are meant
for.

One problem I hate working through is the usage of folders in the sources
folder. Sure you can create folders and organize sources pretty easily, but
like groups, the source is stored in the sources root as well as in the folder
you designate. So in the end, the source root folder is still hellishly long,

But generally, one model per character will suffice. How many actions are you
storing in your model?

What problems arise when nesting models like this? Is it a big no-no, or just
something that might cause headaches in certain situations?

I'm not sure if I understand what your doing but you could probably merge all
the clips to the appropriate animated objects and then save an action from the
top Model?

When you say "I have created a model out of a number of objects and models",
do you mean you've put Models in other Models?

I tend to find this to be a no no.
