Holes in renders

Holes in renders

I'm trying to improve on my scant knowledge of SI3D by jumping to XSI
4.2 and diving in deeper.

Today while trying to get the hang of texturing/shader use, I'm seeing
something never before seen. Never seen mental ray miss a beat, but
today I'm getting random unrendered (squares) areas of images rendered.

Subject geometry is simple polymesh cube with image texture applied.
Holes (random unrendered areas) are showing up whether or not the image
texture is applied.

Any ideas?

Wouldn't it be nice to have CG-Soup in your back pocket at a time like
this. Alas, its me alone in Salt Lake City hacking away at this
monstrous learning curve, fighting the urge to go back to 3.9
John
