File browser broken for desktop

Since switching to 4.2 (or possibly to a new laptop, can't be 100%
sure) I don't get a file listing for the Desktop anymore. The browser
only displays directories, no files whatsoever. All other directories
are fine.
Anybody else seeing this? WinXP SP1, Mobility 9800 with (*cough*) Dell
drivers.
