Particle plugins - whalewatching 2003-11-24 - By DRxDON
Back Thanks, Cobus! Yes, it was all done in trueSpace. I traced the whale from a real photo using NURBS line along several perceivable depth/height/thickness cues in the photo. I then had about 5 or 6 concentric NURBS line shapes which I further tweaked. Then I swept each shape so that they became "stacked" upon each other to make a 3D object. I extracted the object and used sub division surfaces to smooth the stacks into an organic shape.
I only used one particle stream/path. I copied and cut the one stream into MANY pieces to make the water appear to be running off the humpback all over. Obviously, if you wanted to animate such a thing, you would have to use so many particle emitters/ streams/paths, that I doubt if the program could handle it; at least not unless you had a MONSTER of a processing machine. :-)
I used True Scape for the water surface and the cliff, of course. I made my own water texture with ShaderLab II TG shaders.
