Proportional modeling in Maya (aka Soft Selection)

Proportional modeling in Maya (aka Soft Selection)

It's been something missing in Maya for a long time, and was I think
reported to Alias many times I think but to no avail yet.

Maya got a proportionnal "move" tool, but the ergonomy is akin to operating
a drilling machine in the attic which on/off button would be placed on the
far basement wall.

Attempts were made to replicate some other packages great tools (Mirai or
Max) like :

Roger Klado clayDough
http://www.highend3d.com/maya/mel/?section=modeling#1097

Imre Tuske plugin
http://www.highend3d.com/maya/plugins/?section=modeling#2086

Then there is a recurrent problem in Maya about recovering component
selection in the order they were selected that would get Bryan Ewert started
if you mention it ;)

This said I couldn't agree more with you there !

> Hey all,
> This seems like a basic but very useful tool to have.  So why doesn't Maya
have it??  It shouldn't take too long to code, and it's save a hell of alot
of time when modeling with alot of vertices.  I've experimented with some
propriatary tools out there but they all suck.  Sorry to say but this is
definitely one tool that XSI does better.  For future versions of Maya I'd
like to see a proper proportional modeling too implemented, where I can see
fall off radius.   I've talked about this with some programmers and they
seem to indicate that they could write a functional tool IF Alias gave them
more control for creating their own custom manipulators in the SDK.  So my
question is, Does anyone know any other proportional modeling plug-in's out
there that are good??  And if not, when is Alias going to get off their
butts and spend a week to implement this important modeling tool?  :)  I'd
say it's a bigger step forward than the Cut polys tool they implemented last
version.
