stereoscopic on the cheap 2004-03-23 - By Colin Holgate
Back This came up a few weeks ago, but I didn't find time to show an example. It's possible to have stereoscope 3D in an ordinary SW3D scene, without a special monitor, and with full color range. There are limitations to this, but if you wanted to display models for a crowd to see in stereo on a large display, the cost of having IMAX grade synched glasses might be a bit costly.
Here's a slightly cheaper method:
Look at this: http://staff.funnygarbage.com/colin/sub3d.dcr
Now place one lens of some sunglasses over your right eye while watching this with both eyes. Instant stereoscopicness.
If you happen to be using polarized glasses, and are looking at an LCD screen, you'll notice a couple of things. The screen went black, and it needs cleaning. Start off at that point and then rotate the glasses slightly until you see the model with both eyes again.
For an installation you could just have smoke glass squares hanging down from the veiling, with a note written on them to tell the users how to place them over their right eye.
