that's funny, I do not know of any other function in director, which explicitly requires that the result is assigned to a variable, instead of putting it into 'the result', if not assigned. looks like a bug, but it is not the initial problem here, because it has been like this in prior versions.
but the fact, that getPref("file.txt") and/or setPref("file.txt", "sometext") fails on the PC would be a major bug ! let's hope it doesn't affect all environments... anyway, there's something super wrong, as we can't setPref() with the PC over here. (Win2K authoring)
what were the beta testers on, to overlook that bug ? ;-) --
