newbie question: RENDERMAPS 2004-08-19 - By circus geek
Back hmmmm ... ok, i don't seem to be getting any results now here's what i've been doing -i set up my scene with lights and various textures -i check my render options and even render out the first frame to make sure everything looks like what i want (the scene includes FG as well as a light casting a shadow) - i select the object i want 'baked' -i enter into property>rendermap -select my settings with includes shadow, reflection and refraction -when i go to regenerate map..., now nothing happens i've gone over a couple of variations with no result can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong? thanks

Rendermap uses the Render options so that you can set up different passes to bake different effects. that's great everyone!! thanks so much. if possible, could anyone offer up a quick tutorial ... ie, a desired workflow ... for using rendermaps. i went through the documentation and i think i'm now familiar with all the attributes. however, now i can't seem to get the rendermaps to look correct (like the renders prior to applying the rendermap option). i have a simple scene where i have final gathering, reflection, refraction and a 3 light system with one light casting a shadow. thanks again, everyone

If you need explanation on hwo to use it, let us know and we can probably send you a quick scene example on how to apply it. i'm moving over from maya to xsi and i've been trying to find a xsi equivalent to baking textures. since i'm not familiar with the xsi terminology, i'm finding it hard to search for what i want. for those who don't know, maya baking is when you can save out texture information with shadow, lighting, GI, FG, etc then reapply these textures shutting off these rendered attributes (shadow, lighting, GI, FG, etc respectively) so as to save in rendering time. can anyone help me out on a equivalent workflow? much appreciated if you can.
