Hair and Density Maps

Hair and Density Maps

Anyone have time for a simple hair question?

I have read a bunch of things online (and in manuals and tried to follow
what I am supposed to do..

basically... i am trying to use a texture map to determine density of hair..

steps:

on my emitter, i apply a texture with texture coordinates (eg a
checkerboard)
i create hair from the emitter
I use transfer map to transfer the texture from the emitter to the hair
i select the plug and connect the density map input to the texture i
transfered

at this point, i see al lthe hair has evenly changed density, but not
based on the texture

not sure what i am missing or what else i can do

if i connect the transfered texure manually to the hair shader, for
transparency, that seems to work.. but as far as i know ..that
eliminates the use of density map or the cut maps..

anyone?

thanks

todd
