hi carl.

i don’t know about how much detail there is in your scene, but anyway
800 is (in my experience) WAY too less.
i usually use 3000-5000 (depending on my scene) and take a good look at
your min/max radius. try the automatic compute first, then enhance it a
bit down, if it still flickers.

my procedere is usually the following:

first i write a fg_map in the preview region.
than i render my scene on one fast machiene about step 10 and let the FG
points APPEND to that file.
here i use very bad antialiasing, so the machiene only cares about the
FG map.
once that is through (and you have a quite huge FG map), i start a final
render with the good antialising on all machienes, with “generate fg
points only if file doesn’t exist”.
this freezes the fg map and only “normal” rendering is being done, no
more fg calculating - no more flickering.


BUT also my experience , maybe someone can help here too, as soon as the
fg map reaches approx. 230mb, it stops and i cannot render any further.
so i split up my scenes into pieces of around 50-100 frames, which is a
bit of a pain in the $%§.

any elegant suggestions on that would also be appreciated from my side.

Betreff: Flickering HDRI Final Gathering

I know there must be some tweaks to stop the image from flickering when
using HDRI and FG. Does anyone have any fixes or suggestions?
Should I be calculating the map on an overall frame and then switching
off the rebuild?
I have tried various scenarios and to no avail! It is set to an accuracy
of 800!

Any help would be REALLY appreciated - and if anyone has any suggestions
to bring the render times back I would be very thankful!
