thanks for the tip lucas, although I do not really understand, why you split it into 4 images. can't I just scale the sprite up, take the image of the stage and go with that ? of course I then need to enlarge the stage, but since this is for SW deployment I'll need to have an 'invisible' part of the stage anyway.

in my case the only downside would be the clumsyness of the big stage. since I would only do it offscreen and performance is not that much of an issue, since a still picture is to be displayed and it doesn't matter, if it takes a second to get to it.
