rendering question

Btw, I have been wondering recently the benefits of collapsing to an
editable poly vs. editable mesh. I always use editable mesh since it gives a
more instant representation of  polygon count than editable poly does. But
clearly editable poly has its advantages, since it's in there.

what is editable poly helpful for?

in Max, the 'editable poly' (there is no edit poly modifier, you must

collapse to an editable poly) has 'polygons' that can have any number of

sides. Editable meshes have only quads or tris, but the EPs have poly sided

polygons. These of course get triangulated at render time. I assume the same

thing is happening with ogl and dx cards. if you have an EP, and want to see

how it is triangulated, select teh display tab, then in Display Properties

uncheck 'edged only'.

If you import the EP into Dir as w3dm, I believe what you see in Director

with a graphics card is what you will get.

I have a feeling I don't really understand the issue or what the real

question and problem is.
