Link of the day 2004-02-04 - By paul Davies
Back I must admit there's not really any 'scene' that goes with demos here in the US (that I know of, in California anyway). The only thing that is even close is the VJ scene,
i encountered much of the same state when moving to Greece, there was absolutely no scene, both for demos and for vjing, well vjing, there were linear videos, looping over and over, but that aint vj stuff in my book, thats looping videos when music is playing, i was in a ngiht club that was plaing southpark on the large screen :-|
anyways, me and a friend started meeting up with people who organised small parties and said that we would program some visuals for them, and they would react to the music, setup in general was the following
our projector, our computer, our monitor, our leads etc etc (Greeks just plain don't like providing any equipment at all)
as it turns out, its kind of picking up, ok the cash is almost non existent, but to be honest, i dont mind, i just do it cos i love it.
the fun of it at the end of the day, is to see the crowd react, and create far more of an atmosphere that they would have expected, plus it gets the Greek chicks dancing real good.
p.s. they do provide a bottle of whisky or loads of drinks for free tho, so that is sort of payment ;-)
and after these drinks. i have to haul all of the equipment home :-S
