I always thought that it was a little but silly that demo artists in the past go to the extreme of making a demo that renders itself in real time, but is interactively indistinguishable from a 'canned' linear movie (eg a streaming quicktime). It seems to me that the primary benefit of making it realtime is to allow for interactivity. I hope the lack of interactivity is a limitation that demo artists in the future will not feel compelled to hold themselves to. Interactivity will make the rest of the world (not just programmers) say 'wow' when they experience it. People can only passivley view quicktimes but they can actively experience shockwave.
