Maya Savvy 5 is finally available! 2003-11-23 - By John Kundert-Gibbs
Back Hi, all,
Just a quick note to say that Maya Savvy 5 (from Sybex) is finally on the bookshelves! There are a number of regulars on this list (plus lurkers like myself) that have contributed to this book, and I hope you all will check it out to see what's new--which is just about everything, this time around.
One of the comments we received on Savvy 4.5 was that it was too much like the older versions of the book. Well that's all changed with this version, and we're hoping you'll like this way better ;)
The basic structure of the book is now a tutorial on the 3D pipeline from creation to final compositing and editing. While the book obviously focuses on Maya, it's all in the context of creating one "real" project, so there is a great deal of information about how the production pipeline works as well as how to use Maya within this context. This is a pretty unique new angle, and it took us quite a while to write the book and produce the animation, but I think the extra time was worth the effort. We hope you'll find the book reveals a great deal about Maya and how to create a large-scale animation using it.
Oh, and one other thing: our advanced section now covers cloth, fur and fluids (one chapter each), so if you're using Unlimited, you'll probably find some useful information in these chapters!
Sorry for the plug here, but we're really excited about this new book and hope you will be too!
Thanks.
John
