The infamous ATI issue - again....

The infamous ATI issue - again....

Sorry to be a bore and bring this up again, but my searching turns up a
mountain of old/contradictory results...

OK, once and for all:

1. Are the low-end ATI cards still considered unusable/crappy? (my interest
here lies more with the mobility radeons)
2. Is this general crappiness down to Softimage or ATI?
3. Will they ever be less crappy? When (if?) HL2 comes out, will this not mean,
as everyone has predicted, that there'll be scores of disgruntled ATI users
unless this is addressed?

Basically, I'm on the laptop hunt again, and I've found hundreds of laptops
that are perfect in every way, except they use ATI and not Nvidia.  Compared to
the 3 or so I've found that have the same spec with Nvidia cards.  All 3 of
these, without exception, carry a huge jump in price.

This situation would be much better if manufacturers weren't so tight with
their screen resolutions however....

Thanks for your patience. :)

DAN
