Yes, they actually made it easier.. you just have to go to this url, and you get the w3d sdk (after signing some legelese), together with the complete sourcecode of exporter #1. I've used it to adapt the exporter over recent months with great success.. exporting skeleton structure+names, actual vertex weights, etc... also found out that the animation compression setting isn't being used.. (At least that's what it looks like, haven't done a thorough check yet).. There are some default compression settings in for motions that drove my artists nuts.. the threshold for throwing away motion on a bone was way too high for them to create subtle motions..

feel free to ask if you're stuck on something, the thing gets some getting used to. (I'm out of the office the next week though). Make sure to actually read the license, it contains some clauses that you should know about.
