you can change the values of the items stored in the source... Not the same as
saving a new action and only having the changed value update, but pretty close

 Subject: Updating Actions

 Hey

I have a few actions that are poses. Well I have been really using XSIs non
linear approach to things. I have been going back and changing my character's
pose. well the way i am doing it now is reselecting all my controls and keyable
objects that will make that pose. can I just update say 1 bone/control in a
previously stored pose? I dont see it in the docs and I also can't find it by
just looking in the UI.

 thanks

 -Steven
