Back There's the problem. Minumum setting of -1 would cause you to miss the fine detail. That's what's causing the buzzing. Regardless of what you set the threshold to, rays fired into pixels can miss the fine hair in some instances. Use 2,2. Setting the minimum value to the same as the maximum effectively turns off adaptive sampling and gives much better results on detail. Threshold settings would then be irelevant. Same as the difference between adaptive and Bartlet in SI3D rendering.
Personally, I find -1 a touch low, even for general purpose work. I usually start at 1,2 oe 0,2 if I'm in a hurry.
