Well, I bet the next version of Shockwave3D will get us at least to DirectX 9 ;-)

I'm working on my final year project at university which is looking at measuring presence in visually realistic and abstract virtual environments.
I'm using 3ds max to model these environments and I can get them imported into Director OK but I kinda get stuck after that.
The problem is I don't know how to set up the real time camera control stuff. Is it possible to have the mouse control the camera direction?
I want to keep coding to a minumum. Just want to get some environments setup in Director that i can navigate around. Can anyone recommend any good tutorials site for setting up an environment in Director and setting up navigation too?
I have considered creating levels for games etc and using that for the user testing but none of the engines seem suited to anything that doesn't involve shooting stuff. i dunno.
Anyway, any advice that anyone has to offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Greg

I remember directordev.com used to have an example of raycasting where you fly through a world using the mouse as your control ( I think). I think it was called tunnels or something....look in learning section
I would also suggest buying Director's 3rd Dimension, that book covers a lot of 3D navigation stuff and covers a few different collision methods for simple walkthroughs.
That in addition to other feedback from this list should be more than enough to get you started.

Ken, please can you be a little bit more careful with your quoting style ? your last mail had nearly 400 lines with one simple single line question at the top. that's an annoying waste of bandwith. --
